Ammolite (also known as Korite) is the fossilized shell of ammonites which in turn are composed primarily of aragonite. Because of a lamellar structure it reveals an iridescent opal-like play of colour. Mohs hardness 4. It can be found in Alberta Canada/USA. On the market since 1969. Frequently worked into doublets and triplets.
